Logic in the form of Boolean Logic was set out in a remarkable treatise written by George Boole, entitled "The Laws of Thought on which are founded The Mathematic Theories of Logic and Probabilities" and published in 1854. This set out basic logical algorithms to explain how humans deduce.

The same logical mathematics is critical for the design and implementation of information systems logic components. It also provides the structure for building general information systems, automated processes as well as expert knowledge-based systems.

In arriving at conclusions as to the best options for taking decisions in systems design as well as social and political questions, Boolean Logic, qualified by the degree of certainty of facts applied, expressed in terms of probabilities, provides the basis for the powerful process of decision analysis.

This broad range of relevance of Boolean Logic is also extended to the explanation of how we as humans deduce things from facts so as to orientate thoughts and applied actions. These are elements of the learning process which when combined with the repetitive application of learned technique transforms into a learning curve. The learning curve, the relationship between the gain in efficiency in output with every doubling of historic throughput, is a powerful tool in establishing the probable limits of physical and economic efficiency over time.

Scripts are the languages used, again based upon Boolean Logic, to provide the functional logic to the processes used by information systems in achieving their objectives.
